Sustainable E-commerce - delving into the world of Shopify apps

Sustainability is a common part of our everyday lives but trying to unravel the number of choices that we need to make on a daily basis can be pretty daunting. Consumers across the spectrum are being educated and educating themselves on how to navigate the challenges associated with sustainability from climate change to living incomes to workers rights.

There is plenty of evidence out there to show that consumers are acting on this information. For example:

  • According to Nielsen, 73% of consumers would alter their consumption habits to reduce environmental impact.

  • In research by Deloitte, they found 39% of consumers choose brands who have environmentally sustainable practices/ values

  • In a survey by Accenture, 72% of respondents said they’re currently buying more environmentally friendly products than they were five years ago.

So if you want your brand to resonate with these values and purpose based customers you need to show how your brand aligns and fits into their lifestyle and eco-system. Some of this weight will be carried by your brand architecture but as an ecom brand you mustn’t forget that your website is where the purchasing actually takes place.

If you are already on Shopify this is a big tick. Shopify are leading the way in the online fight against climate change - that’s a meaty topic for another day.
