Recharge Shopify Agency
From complex build-a-box flows and dynamic pricing to Recharge Automate, advanced cancellation flows and direct API integrations
Eleven is a design-led Shopify agency with deep, proven expertise in Recharge — the subscription platform powering more than 20,000 brands and 100 million subscribers globally. We implement, optimise and scale Recharge for DTC brands that are serious about recurring revenue.
From complex build-a-box flows and dynamic pricing to Recharge Automate, advanced cancellation flows and direct API integrations, we know what the platform can do and how to make it perform for your specific product and subscriber base.
What we do with Recharge
Our Recharge work covers the full lifecycle of subscription commerce — from the initial implementation through to ongoing optimisation of retention, LTV and recurring revenue. We are not generalist developers who have used Recharge once. We have built on it repeatedly across brands in food and drink, wellness, beauty and DTC essentials, each with different product configurations, pricing strategies and subscriber behaviours.
Recharge implementation and configuration
We handle end-to-end Recharge setup on Shopify and Shopify Plus — selling plan architecture, subscription widget design and placement, checkout integration, and Shopify admin configuration. We build subscription experiences that feel like a natural extension of your brand rather than a third-party bolt-on, and we structure your Recharge setup so that your team can manage it without ongoing developer support.
Build-a-box and bundle builder development
Recharge natively supports product bundles, but the brands we work with typically need something more considered. We have built custom build-a-box flows that combine Recharge with Shopify metaobjects, metafields, and in more complex cases, a server-side layer to handle backend bundle logic and ensure clean integration with Shopify checkout. TRIP Drinks is a strong example — a fully custom build-a-box experience allowing subscribers to mix products across a growing catalogue, with dynamic discount cadence incentives and precise funnel tracking.
Recharge Automate
Recharge Automate gives brands the ability to build conditional logic into subscription management — triggered actions based on subscriber behaviour, order milestones, cancellation intent or lifecycle events. We design and build Automate workflows that reduce manual intervention, improve retention without requiring active management, and create personalised subscriber experiences at scale. For JENKI Matcha, Recharge Automate was central to structuring the Starter Kit subscription flow — handling the complexity of an initial full kit delivery followed by recurring matcha-only refills, without creating operational overhead for the JENKI team.
Dynamic pricing and discount cadence
One of Recharge's most commercially significant capabilities is dynamic pricing — the ability to offer different discount structures at different subscription intervals, cadences or milestones. We design discount cadence strategies that balance subscriber acquisition cost against long-term LTV, and implement them cleanly within Recharge's pricing architecture. TRIP Drinks leveraged this capability to create tiered Subscribe & Save incentives (ranging from 25% to 50% depending on the product and plan) that increased both subscription conversion and average order value simultaneously.
Cancellation flows and churn reduction
Recharge's cancellation flow functionality allows brands to present targeted retention offers before a subscriber reaches the final cancellation confirmation. We design and build these flows based on subscriber segmentation and cancellation reason — meaning a subscriber who cancels because they have too much product sees a skip or pause option, while one citing price sees a relevant discount. This is one of the highest-impact optimisations available in Recharge and consistently produces meaningful improvements in subscriber save rates.
Recharge API integrations
For brands with more complex requirements, we work directly with the Recharge API to build custom integrations — connecting Recharge subscriber data to Klaviyo for lifecycle email automation, to analytics platforms for cohort reporting, to warehouse and fulfilment systems for operational efficiency, and to custom front-end experiences that go beyond what Recharge's standard portal provides. Our Recharge API knowledge allows us to build subscription experiences that are genuinely differentiated rather than constrained by platform defaults.
Portal UX design
The subscriber portal is where churn is either accelerated or prevented. We design subscriber-facing account experiences that make it easy to skip, swap, pause or update — reducing support tickets, reducing involuntary churn caused by friction, and giving subscribers the confidence to stay. We apply the same UX standard to subscription management that we apply to the purchase flow, because subscriber experience after acquisition is where long-term LTV is actually built.
Ongoing optimisation and CRO
Recharge implementation is the starting point, not the end point. We work with brands on an ongoing basis to analyse subscription performance data, identify conversion and retention opportunities, test changes to flow copy and UX, and iterate on the subscriber experience. Our Subscription Intelligence™ framework brings structure to this process — surfacing cohort data, churn reasons and LTV trends that inform where to focus next.

Recharge results across Eleven clients
These are real results from DTC brands where Eleven implemented and optimised Recharge as the core subscription platform.
Recharge in practice — client highlights
TRIP Drinks — build-a-box, dynamic pricing and subscription CRO
TRIP Drinks is the UK's leading drinks brand, recognised for its category-defining design and expanding product range across drinks, oils and gummies. When Eleven began working with TRIP, their subscription offering was limited to single-product selections with no optimisation for cross-selling or upselling.
Eleven implemented a fully custom build-a-box experience using Recharge as the core subscription engine, combined with Shopify metaobjects, metafields, custom front-end code and a server layer for backend bundle logic. This allowed TRIP subscribers to mix and match products across an expanding catalogue while Recharge handled recurring billing, product swaps, flexible pause and cancellation options, and dynamic discount cadence incentives.
The results were material: subscriptions increased by 51%, average order value grew by 119%, and overall sales increased by 68%. The TRIP team gained a subscription infrastructure they could manage and scale without ongoing developer dependency.
JENKI Matcha — Recharge Automate and starter kit subscription flows
JENKI is a premium matcha brand with cult status in London and a growing DTC subscription business. The brief was to migrate a legacy Shopify theme, refine the user experience, and design subscription journeys that matched JENKI's premium positioning without adding operational complexity.
The central challenge was the Starter Kit subscription model: customers receive the full kit on first delivery, followed by recurring matcha-only refills. This required a carefully designed subscription flow that communicated the two-phase delivery clearly, remained easy to manage in Shopify admin, and felt frictionless at checkout. Eleven used Recharge Automate to structure the product and plan architecture, handling the complexity of the initial and recurring delivery logic without custom code overhead.
Post-launch results: conversion rate increased by 16%, average order value by 1.9%, and subscription checkouts by 15%. The JENKI team gained a scalable subscription foundation that continues to evolve through Eleven's ongoing post-launch support.
Press London — subscription strategy for high-consideration cleanse products
Press London is one of the UK's leading cold-pressed juice brands, offering cleanse programmes and meal plans to a health-conscious DTC audience. Subscription commerce for a cleanse brand presents specific UX challenges — customers purchasing a 3-day juice cleanse or soup cleanse have different repurchase motivations than everyday consumable brands, requiring careful consideration of subscription cadence, Skip and Pause UX, and the messaging hierarchy around recurring vs one-time purchase.
Eleven worked with Press London on Recharge implementation and subscription UX design, structuring subscription plans that aligned with realistic repurchase frequency for cleanse products and designing subscriber flows that reduced friction at every stage of the lifecycle.
When we recommend Recharge
Recharge is not the right platform for every brand, and we will always tell you that honestly. But for brands in the following situations, Recharge is often the strongest choice.
- You need bundle or build-a-box functionality with recurring subscription billing — Recharge's architecture handles this more flexibly than most alternatives.
- You have a complex product catalogue where subscribers need to mix, swap or customise their recurring order.
- You are on Shopify Plus and want deep API access for custom integrations with your existing tech stack — analytics, ESP, fulfilment, customer support.
- You have a large existing subscriber base and migration risk outweighs the potential gains from switching platforms.
- You need dynamic pricing logic — different discount structures at different subscription intervals, milestones or segments.
- You want the most established ecosystem of agency developers, third-party integrations and documented solutions.
For brands where churn reduction and cancellation flow sophistication are the primary concern, or where transaction fee savings at volume are commercially significant, we may recommend Loop or Skio instead. The platform decision should always follow an honest assessment of your specific situation — not a default recommendation.
Common questions about Recharge
Do we need Shopify Plus to use Recharge effectively?
No — Recharge works on both standard Shopify and Shopify Plus. That said, Shopify Plus unlocks native checkout customisation that makes the subscription experience more seamless, and it removes Shopify's standard transaction fees. For brands doing meaningful subscription volume, Plus is worth the investment. We can advise on whether the step up makes commercial sense for your current revenue.
How long does a Recharge implementation take with Eleven?
A straightforward Subscribe & Save implementation — selling plan setup, widget design, checkout integration and basic portal configuration — fast. A more complex implementation involving build-a-box, custom flows, Recharge Automate configuration, and API integrations with third-party tools will run longer depending on scope. We will always define this clearly in the project brief before work begins.
Can you migrate us from Skio or Loop to Recharge?
Yes. We have experience managing subscription platform migrations and understand what the process involves — subscriber data transfer, plan mapping, billing continuity, and the communication strategy to avoid subscriber disruption during the transition. We would always start by understanding whether migration is the right move given your current situation before committing to the work.
Do you offer ongoing Recharge support and optimisation after launch?
Yes — this is a core part of how we work. Most brands we implement Recharge for continue working with us through our CRO Growth retainer, which includes ongoing subscription performance analysis, flow iteration, A/B testing and Subscription Intelligence™ reporting. Subscription commerce is not a one-time project; the brands that grow their recurring revenue fastest are the ones that treat it as a continuously optimised programme.
What is Subscription Intelligence™ and how does it relate to Recharge?
Subscription Intelligence™ is Eleven's proprietary framework for auditing and optimising subscription programmes. When applied to a Recharge-powered store, it surfaces cohort retention data, churn reasons, dunning recovery rates and LTV trends that Recharge's standard reporting does not always surface clearly. It gives brands a precise picture of where their subscription programme is underperforming and what to fix first.
